sometimes it’s hard to remember, but it’s true we’re all doing our very best. we’re all living to get through the day, and we’re trying to be happy, and not to feel our hearts break, and sometimes we may be cruel and lash out. but perhaps it’s only because of the mess that’s going on upstairs. we all go a little mad sometimes, we’re only human. but really, sometimes we do these things that hurt others, and we didn’t mean to do so, we were only trying not to get hurt ourselves; lashing out in self defense.

you could spend your whole life blaming others for past wrongs and indiscretions. or, you could live your whole life remembering that deep down, we’re all trying, and we all have eager hearts, and you can forgive and you can forgive. sometimes forgetting is difficult, but we can forgive, oh yes. i promise, WE ARE ALL TRYING TO DO OUR BEST.

have you ever stopped to wonder how many stars there are in the sky? i’ll tell you exactly how many there are. there is one for every single person alive today, and one for every person that has ever lived. there are new ones being born every day from clouds of gas and dust… interstellar nurseries. a new star for every new child.

we’re all up there, staking claim to our spots in the infinite void of sky. with our feet planted on the ground, when we look up to see the stars, some of them we see faintly, others we can’t see, some burn brightly, and there are some that make themselves known from the farthest reaches of the universe, sometimes only when someone’s looking just right.

the point is that they have more in common then they don’t, and every single one of them burns and burns and burns. whether you even know that it exists or not, each one burns on day in and day out. and as you’ve probably guessed by now, i’m not just talking about the stars. i’m talking about you.

your neighboring stars, your friends, your family, the celestial bodies that share your galaxy, they can see exactly how brightly you burn. they know your luminescence. maybe others don’t get close enough to see it, but that doesn’t for one second change the fact that you are there, you exist, and you burn, and you glow, you are powerful, and you light up the sky. you’re part of something far greater than what you see and what you know and what you comprehend, and we all are, and that is beautiful.

you’re a part of the galaxy. you’re a part of this vast, ever growing universe that is our home, that expands by the minute, as do our lives, augmented by new friends, and new experiences, new loves, and new knowledge.

the astronomers watch you from afar, and you may not even realize it, but you make people smile, you bring comfort just because you’re there. i promise. you make me smile.

you’re as old as time, and god dammit… i love you. thank you for burning, for shining on, for reliably being there to turn to when everything else seems to spin out of control on this crazy little earth that moves at tens of thousands of miles an hour. when it all falls apart, i know i can count on you. i can rely on the fact that you are there, and that you are existing, and that you are doing the best you can- because we all are, you know? you’re loving and living and breathing and god, what you do, it’s so much more than just existing, because i love you, and i know you burn burn burn with intensity and fervor. you are radiant and resplendent, and you are perfect.

everything is new

new year: remember it’s never too late for new beginnings. shed the weight that burdens your shoulders and go boldly forth into this new day, into this new year. tomorrow is yours; make of it what you will. the future is yours. tell the world what your future will hold, never the opposite. you are the master of your own world, and the owner of your dreams. remember to live, to laugh and to love with great intensity and infuse all of your days with passion. remember that you are beautiful, beautiful, beautiful and your life is full of love. just open your eyes to it and you’ll be sure to find it. remember that nothing makes you feel warmer than someone’s name beating through your heart, keep those names, those pretty birds, keep them flowingflowingflowing through your veins, and remember that your love for them and their love for you keeps you strong. they’re your white blood cells and they’ll help you ward off the bad. every day is a good day to realize that you can change your life and that you can mold it into whatever shape you want it to be, but the beginning of a new year is an especially good time because the whole world is reminding you that new beginnings are always possible. happy new years lovelies, with love, we can all work together to make this next decade a good one.

happy holidays

wrap yourself up in your loved ones and keep each other warm with your beating hearts. take joy in the smiles on other people’s faces and smile big, knowing that someone else will be doing exactly the same. fill up with good thoughts and good feelings. fall asleep in a big pile of good people. exhaust yourselves with love and cheer, expend more energy than you thought you had in you on your smile alone and wear yourself out with it.
it’s the holiday season and some people have very little. remember the things you do have and please please remember that you are so so blessed. maybe you didn’t get that unicorn/x-box/whatever that you wanted… but look around you, you’re surrounded by people who really do love you… even though sometimes they have a funny way of showing it. we’re all doing the best we can. remember that, always.
gift the gift of love, and let it shine through your face for everyone to see. light up the room with it, and pass it on to everyone you see. that smile is contagious, so spread the cheer, spread the cheer.

happy holidays babies. keep your loved ones near and let them know how truly dear to you they are. no matter what faith you are, or what your holiday celebrations consist of, that’s the very best present of all.

powerful beyond measure

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles, Marianne Williamson

perfect your life

“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, & demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long & its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people & grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food & for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one & no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools & robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep & pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song & die like a hero going home.”

flawed and perfect

you’re alive. your breath is warm, and there is blood pumping through your veins. you’re human. and you know what that means? you’re inherently flawed… and you know what? that’s fine. in fact, it’s more than fine. you know what it really means? you’re perfect. for all of your “flaws” that are all part of what makes you YOU, you are absolutely, undeniably perfect.

thank you for being you. just the way you are. you are a beautiful, beautiful bird. the most beautiful. and I will always be here to tell you so when you need to hear it most.

so that Death will tremble to take us

“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can’t readily accept the God formula, the big answers don’t remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command or faith a dictum. I am my own God. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”

-Charles Bukowski
